THAT'S ME!

Wants to find the perfect ratio of travel and responsibility.

HOME

TOLEDO, OHIO

I’ve never photographed the house I grew up in until this weekend. On a trip home for the memorial day holiday, I pulled out the camera and shot the exterior of the house my family has owned since 1982. My brother and I were raised here. I learned to play basketball in the backyard and park a car in the very narrow garage. These shutters have changed color 3 times since we moved in and the original bright green trim usually plays in my memories. The porch is my favorite place to spend a summer afternoon and peonies will always be my favorite flower. I was shaped by where I grew up. The town, the village, the street. I can’t imagine growing up anywhere else. Whoever said you can never go home again never had a place like mine.

LITTLE BOY IN BLACK AND WHITE

SHANGHAI, CHINA

Still pouring thru images from my trip to China and I came across my shots of this little boy wandering outside his parent’s storefront. Shortly after plopping down and pouting for a minute, he was quickly swept up by his parents and treated to some lunch-time sweets.

TEAPOTS, TABLEWARE AND TRINKETS

YU YUAN GARDENS ANTIQUE MARKET, SHANGHAI, CHINA

You want it, you can probably find it here if you arrive in the early hours of the weekend mornings. A four-floor mecca to all things antique in Chinese culture can be found just outside the gates of Yu Yuan Gardens in Shanghai. Most of these photos were taken on the fourth floor of the market- the space that changes daily depending on when the seller himself arrives to stand in line for the most opportune spots of concrete floor. Inside you can find jade, though no guarantees of it authenticity, of course. There are teapots in every shape, size and color. You can find traditional chinese pottery and vases next to birdcages and funky buddhas. The tradesmen aren’t pushy and as you can see, ready to make a sale.

MOTHERS

TOLEDO, OHIO

Just a quick note to say thank you to moms everywhere for making this world a better place.

FAST FOOD

YUYUAN GARDEN, SHANGHAI, CHINA

Ladies, I share the feeling. End of a long day and this post says it all. More photographs from China coming soon.

BEACH BEAUTY

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA

The beach. An amazing and stunning force of nature that is the sea, the sand and the sky. Add a beautiful girl and you have photo magic. This shoot took place on the first warm, sunny weekend in spring here in Los Angeles. I got these shots in the last two hours before sundown and my model Shannon was fantastic- even changing surf style in the beach parking lot. Wonder if that’s how they roll for Roxy or Quicksilver shoots? I’m guessing no… but I’m willing to give it a shot if they call!

ROLLING STONE

ROLLINGSTONE.COM

Check out the Gibson guitar giveaway today at rollingstone.com! Two lessons to take away from this fantastic surprise– 1. always have your camera handy and 2. shoot details and make them visually interesting. It may be something small, but seeing my name under a photo for RollingStone gives me a push to keep going. I made 3 New Year’s Resolutions in 2009 and admitted them only to a select few. I held on to the hope of being published in at least one big publication that year. I was a couple months late, but I’m not counting calendar squares today. Mom, without you, I couldn’t have made this photo. Dad, I hope you have a subscription to RollingStone up there!

BACK FROM THE RED

SHANGHAI, CHINA

My body is technically back from across the globe, but I’m not sure my mind has fully made it back from China. The jet-lag has been brutal. I am awake when I should be sleeping and wishing I was sleeping when I need to be awake. I am dreaming of dumplings and day-trips. Tons more photos to come, I promise. Wanted to apologize for the delay. Thanks to Dave for always taking our food photos!

GOLDEN GIRL

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA

I’ve been so slammed with my 9-5er (umm… more like 9-9er) that my personal work has taken a bit of a backseat. As excited as I am for last Sunday’s shoot to post, I am going to need a weekend or two of serious focus to get everything done I want to share! Here is just a little taste of what’s to come.

MANHATTAN BEACH, I LOVE YOU

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA

Life is Good. I did some test shooting on a perfect sunday in March in Manhattan Beach, California; 78 degrees, sunny, slight breeze out of the northwest. I promise a full post to come but I’ve tons of editing and processing to do yet. Before I disappear to the depths of my computer cave, I wanted to get a thanks out to everyone who helped make this day happen. Thank you to Shannon, my lovely model (not seen here!), for giving up her afternoon off to do the shoot, to Dave for being the best unpaid assistant a girl could ask for and to Petee for being the muscle when things got dicey. Ok, well, it’s Manhattan Beach, nothing got dicey, but he did handle crowd control. Also a shout out to my brother James P. for making some calls and getting to business. You gave me a push when I needed it.
